The Pride brings triptych to 2007 WGI European Regional

2nd November 2006

Winterguard The Pride from Huizen, The Netherlands will be bringing a triptych (from the Greek tri- "three" + ptyché "fold") to the Winter Guard floor in 2007 with their three competitive units. The triptych concept is “horen, zien en zwijgen”, which is Dutch for the saying “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”. The literal translation from the Dutch is: “hearing, seeing and hush(ing)”. The three programs together are intended to be greater than just the sum of their parts.

The Pride Cadets program is called: Horen – "Sounds of the city". Their program relates to the different sounds you would hear in a city, if you would really take a moment to listen to them. At the same time, a deaf person would not be able to hear these sounds, however this would not necessarily be a disadvantage... Sounds of the city, Beethoven’s ‘Moonlight Sonata’ and ‘Welcome to the City’ by Amy Diamond will form the soundtrack. Tamara Zuijdervliet, Melanie Heinze and Rianne Zoon have designed this show for 24 young kids. The Pride Cadets are 8 time Dutch Cadet Class champions, and have signed into the Junior Class at the 2007 WGI European Regional in London.

The Pride 'A' will present their 2007 program called: Zien - "If living is seeing, I’m holding my breath". Their program deals with being able to see one another without having to use your eyes. Blind people would also be able to do this using other senses. When you listen, when you feel... what do you hear, what do you feel? What do you experience? The Pride 'A' uses excerpts from the soundtrack of the movie ‘Dancer in the Dark’. Icelandic singer Bjork has written unique music for this film. Erick Bacon, Mariska Bernardt (Crossmen alumni), Gea Jacobs, Peter Knoppers and Mariska Sweering have designed this show for the 16 young ladies in The Pride 'A'. They are the current WGI European Regional title holders, and have been Dutch 'A' Class champions for the last four consecutive seasons. At the 2007 WGI European Regional in London, they will defend their title in Independent 'A'.

The Pride Open 2007 program is called: Zwijgen – "The Master Puppeteer of his own Marionette". They will close the The Pride triptych with a program inspired by the ‘silent movie’. A silent movie has no narration by the actors. In the 1920’s, Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin became famous with these type of movies; particularly Chaplin, being writer, producer, director and the comic of his silent movies. The characteristics with which he moved and got the story across made him unique in his arena. The Pride Open 2007 will, with 28 performers, again push the boundaries of Winter Guard in The Netherlands. “Zwijgen” is based on ‘An American in Paris’ by George Gershwin. The program is designed by Erick Bacon (Alliance of Miami alumnus, former Paradigm and Shaktai staff), Robby Overvliet (Emerald Marquis alumnus, former Sacred Heart staff), Sylvia Vos (current Pride of Cincinnati member), Ilonka Zuijdervliet and Tamara Zuijdervliet (Pioneer, Crossmen alumnus). The Pride Open are 4 time Dutch Open Class champions and have signed into World Class at the 2007 WGI European Regional in London.

Winterguard The Pride is, with nearly 100 members, currently the largest Winter Guard organization in Europe. The organization has grown steadily over the last 5 years to operate no fewer than 5 units this season. Next to the competitive units, there are the Mini and Pre-Cadet units that prepare young children to be ready for The Pride Cadets. Winterguard The Pride has won 9 out of 12 Dutch National Classes in the last 4 years. The organization is preparing themselves to compete at the 2008 WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
